What is the Deal with Reseller Web Hosting?
There are so many web hosts selling web hosting packages that sometimes it gets hard to understand what is actually being offered. If you are looking to get hosting for the first time, then some of the terms used can get a little confusing. One of those terms which tend to confuse a lot of individuals is reseller hosting.
A reseller hosting account is a web hosting account which offers hosting on space which they are renting from another full service hosting provider. Usually, a host provider that is actually a reseller which could be either an individual or a small business uses the bandwidth and features from a primary host. They then resell the bandwidth and web space to their customers and usually offer other services which may include web design, web programming and domain registrations.
Most of the large hosts which are true hosting providers offer reseller accounts to bolster their income. They offer their reseller accounts the opportunity to use the account to open their own hosting company, or to allow them to create their own hosting accounts if they own more than one domain. Those individuals who use reseller accounts to host their own domains are usually internet marketers who may own nearly one hundred domains, and some own even more than that. The reseller account allows them to pay on fee and save over having to pay for an account for each domain.
Reseller accounts allow those who have the entrepreneurial spirit to really shine. Since most reseller accounts start at under $30, it is possible for almost anyone to start a hosting business literally over night. Of course, there is stiff competition among hosting resellers. With the primary hosting providers creating such great deals on reseller hosting, it makes it easy for individuals to jump in the hosting business on a whim.
Hosting resellers fill a need in the hosting world by being able to offer the services that the larger firms simply cannot handle. Resellers have the ability to offer web design and other services on a more personal level. The large primary hosting firms simply do not have the time and resources to communicate on the personal level that resellers do.
If you are in the market for simple web hosting for your site and you would much prefer the personal touch that a hosting reseller can give, then they may be the perfect solution for you. If you would like design and programming services from your hosting provider, then a web host reseller may just fit the bill. It certainly is true that a web host reseller can offer you that personal attention and other web services you may need.
However, if you happen to own a web business that requires more complex solutions such as credit card processing, or if you have a huge number of visitors to your site, then a reseller may not be your best bet.
